OUR SERVICES

Daily Rides at the Dunedin Botanic Garden.

These rides start outside the café. Just purchase tickets at the Train or Shuttle. When there are passengers aboard we go. Both rides are subject to the weather and availability of volunteer drivers. You can check whether they are operating by contacting the Garden Information Centre, phone 4719275.

Hours :

Summer (Nov. - April) 10.30 am to 3.00 pm. - daily.

Winter (May - Oct.) 11 am to 2.30 pm. Sat, Sun, some week days.

Public and school holidays - daily.

No service - Good Friday and Christmas Day.

BLUEBELL, The Train

Takes a leisurely 10-15 minute circuit round the Lower Garden with commentary or music available. We cater for everyone and happy to assist the elderly or disabled aboard and can take two wheelchairs. Operates throughout the year subject to weather and availability of volunteer drivers.

Fares : Adults - $3 ,

Children - $1 , under 4yrs free.

The SHUTTLE BUG

The electric shuttle can travel round both

Lower and Upper Gardens. Commentary is

included. It operates during the summer

season only and is subject to the weather

and availability of volunteer drivers.

Full Tour - Lower + Upper Garden. 40 mins including short stop at Aviary, or Rhododendron Dell. Adults -$10, Children $5, under 4yrs free.

Upper Garden Only Tour - 20 mins return plus short stop option at Aviary or Rhododendron Dell. Adults $5 , Children $2, under 4yrs free.

Lower Garden Only - 10–15 mins. circuit. Adults $5 , Children $2 , under 4yrs free.

Group Tours at the Dunedin Botanic Garden

We welcome group bookings for rides through the week and cater for Rest Homes, Preschools, Schools and Garden Groups. These tours need to be booked at least two weeks in advance. We can tailor them to your needs. For example:

Tour in Bluebell

The Train has a capacity of 20, or 16 plus 2 in wheelchairs and multiple trips can be made for larger groups. Your group can be picked up at the Lower Carpark, make two circuits of the Lower Garden, stop at the café and be picked up later and returned to the car park. Assistance can be given to the less mobile to get on and off. Children’s groups may want to stop for an activity or picnic. Commentaries or music is included. Prices are as for daily rides above. Capacity may be reduced for spacing under Covid rules but multiple trips can be made if required.

Tour in the Shuttle Bug

This has a capacity of 10 passengers with storage for walking frames etc. For larger groups if time allows multiple trips can be taken. Tours can be tailored to your group. Our usual tour is a pick up at the Lower Car Park, a circuit of the Lower Garden then over the bridge to the Upper Garden with beautiful views and past the Aviary to the Upper Car Park by the Azalea/Rhododendron area. If you wish you can get off to see either of these areas or at the café on the way back. We return you to the carpark to finish. Commentary is included. Prices as for daily rides above.
